The 1960s was a key decade in the history of hospitality. In fact, it was during these years that the foundations of the modern tourism economy were laid. In the Riviera Romagnola you could find the first accommodation facilities able to satisfy an unprecedented demand for mass tourism.
In 1960, in an atmosphere of great optimism and celebration, Hotel Due Mari was opened to offer a holiday with the "Dolce Vita Riminese" to elite guests who loved tennis. In fact, the special feature of the hotel is a tennis court available to its guests, an uncommon extra at that time.
This decade was also marked by tourism from Northern Europe. Given its proximity to Miramare airport, Hotel Due Mari was able to accommodate many English and Scandinavian tourists.
Another interesting fact from those years was the creation of an independent state 11 km off the coast of Rimini. In fact, engineer Giorgio Rosa built a 400 m² artificial platform that he declared an independent state on the 1st of May 1968, under the official name of Repubblica Esperantista dell'Isola delle Rose, known to most as Isola delle Rose. Although it gave itself an official language, a government, a currency and even its own postal service, complete with official postage stamp, it was never formally recognised by any state in the world as an independent nation and in June 1968 it was occupied by police forces and demolished in February 1969.
This episode was soon forgotten and viewed only as an attempt to "urbanise the sea". Only in the early years of the new millennium did it become the subject of research and studies, revealing its utopian and pioneering nature for those years.
In 1976, a few steps away from the hotel, the Thalassotherapy establishment, now known as Riminiterme, was established.
This brought about a change in the hotel's clientele. Indeed, guests are now interested in wellness holidays.
The 1980s marked another important development in Rimini tourism, and the Hotel Due Mari got a makeover to keep up with the times. A burgundy-coloured facade greeted the guests who at that time chose the Riviera as their summer holiday destination.
The 1980s and 1990s saw the inauguration of large water parks and beautiful amusement parks for family entertainment. In Rimini and Riccione, dozens of discos and dance halls were created for the enjoyment of young and old alike. The Riviera Romagnola was anointed the "Italian capital of fun", in fact nowhere else in Italy boasts so many attractions for young people and families alike.
In 1998, a new owner acquired Hotel Due Mari.
The beginning of the new millennium marks a new transformation of the hotel. Particularly popular, until then, with lovers of thermal baths, it underwent a change of pace.
The tennis court makes way for a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, turning the hotel into a family destination. This change is very important because with its renovation, Hotel Due Mari makes a leap in terms of quality, becoming a 4-star hotel.
In January 2006, Hotel Due Mari had the honour of hosting the Olympic Flame as it passed through the city of the Romagna before continuing its journey to Turin where the Winter Olympics were being held.
After several changes of management, in 2020 the hotel changed ownership.
It becomes part of the Motta Group, whose sole mission is to ensure that the stay of its guests is unique and special.
For this reason, right from the first year of management, the hotel was immediately renovated, paying close attention to the suggestions of its guests and long-standing clients.
